About Switched on Schools
Northern Ireland Electricity, the Department of Agriculture
and Rural Development and the Education and Library
Boards in Northern Ireland have been working in partnership
to develop this landmark project which aims to install
solar photovoltaic panels at 21 rural schools throughout
Northern Ireland as well as 25 renewable streetlights
at 9 of the schools.
We all need to seize the opportunities that are available
to harness the potential for renewable energy in Northern
Ireland. There is no better time to consider alternative
sources of energy and we all must think carefully about
our carbon footprint. This project is a great place
for schools to start. Hopefully the school children
will harness their own pester power to encourage their
families and communities to think about more ways to
incorporate renewable
energy.
Mott Macdonald has managed the project with Solarcentury
supplying the solar panels and renewable streetlights
all of which were installed by local installer, Horizon
Renewables. The website has been designed by Jelly
